The Lord Your Trust

Psalm 40:4 (ESV) Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!

The Pslamist’s message is pretty clear:
  • Do not become prideful.
  • Do not be led astray by false teaching.
  • Make the Lord your trust.

But what does that mean and how do we do this? The short answer is that we trust in the Lord.
Proverbs 4:23 tells us to guard our hearts, because this is where everything about us comes from.  Our desires, our wants, our direction in life.  Everything.  If we stray from the truth that is in the Lord, we risk letting down our guard, inviting in pride and false teaching, and ultimately falling off the path that was meant for us.

God wants us to walk with Him on the path that he has laid out before us (Jeremiah 29:11, Matthew 7:13).  He knows what’s best for us, and He wants us to succeed.  Our main focus in life should never be to fulfill our own pleasures, but to carry out the great commission (Matthew 28:16-20).

Today, I encourage you to examine your life and your walk.  Ask God to help draw you closer to Him and show you your path.  Ask for opportunities and wisdom for them when they happen.

Lord, thank you for not only walking with me through life, but being my guide down the path You have laid out for me.  Help me to recognize my path and the things you want me to see.

Amen.
