Will You Walk Away When It Get's Confusing?
By this time in His ministry, Jesus’ disciples numbered in the tens of thousands with varying degrees of devotion. At least hundreds were serious enough to consider Him their rabbi and would have actively supported a movement to make Him king. But Jesus knew theirs was the kind of fickle devotion that sprouts quickly and withers suddenly in the heat.
In our last lesson, Jesus mentioned that His followers would have to eat His flesh and drink His blood in order to have eternal life. That sounds like cannibalism and would be repulsive to almost everyone if they don’t discern what Jesus means. Jesus’ words mean that He is going to have to die. This makes it rather apparent that Jesus is not going to take over as a “physical” ruler and rescue the Jews from Rome. In fact, it shatters almost every expectation they had conjured up for Him. Since they can’t understand Him on their terms, they respond by choosing to reject Him. Thank you for joining us at Cross Waves Church.
