How Do You Respond To God's Love?

Sep 8, 2024    Pastor Dr. Timothy Steele

We are in the fifth and final lesson on Jesus from Luke chapter 7. There are stories of women anointing Jesus in all four Gospels. This is the first one and is significantly different from the others. A little background will help to establish that these are similar, but separate events. This event that is recorded in Luke’s Gospel takes place in Galilee. The others occur in Bethany.

Jesus not only accepted hospitality from the publicans and sinners but also from the Pharisees. They needed the Word of God too, whether they realized it or not. We trust that Simon the Pharisee’s invitation was a sincere one and that he did not have some ulterior motive for having Jesus in his home. If he did, his plan backfired, because he learned more about himself than he cared to know!

In this text, we learn that Jesus is a Savior who forgives the biggest sinners. Jesus removes our guilt and shame, grants us a new heart, and gives us a future. Thank you for joining us at Cross Waves Church.
