Who Do You Have Over For Dinner?

This brief passage is Matthew’s only mention of himself. It is natural that Matthew should use his own life as an example in his case for the identity of Jesus as the Messiah. As Matthew is retelling his own story, he wants us to know that the type of person he was—a tax collector—is the type of person Jesus approached and called.
